April Flowers is more than a clever name of an amazingly talented florist in San Luis Obispo. April Peet is also the founder and owner. Her life is overflowing with beauty from the flowers she arranges, to the family she is raising. Everyone that experiences April's work is blessed by the atmosphere she creates and the unique floral arrangements she brings to each couple's wedding. If you don't know April, you need too!
How did your creative journey begin?
My creative journey began in college. I went to Cal Poly SLO and graduated with a degree in Recreation Administration with a concentration in Special Event Planning (yes, that's actually a major) and had the best intention of becoming a wedding designer+coordinator. See, I'm a type-A personality and as you can imagine that means I appreciate a well thought out plan and execution of said plan. While at school, I got a job at the best flower shop in town (not sure how since I didn't have any experience) and worked there throughout my time at Cal Poly. When I was about to graduate, my then boss offered to sell me his shop and make it my own. I bought that little shop and, thankfully, my floral design skills had come a long way! I discovered this artistic+creative part of myself I'd yet to tap into. I've been working with flowers ever since.
What makes the way you do business unique?
I'm extremely detail oriented and if you read the answer to the question just above, you read that I have a background in event planning. With me, it's more than flowers. It's the flow of your event from sending out the invitation to the end of the night and how flowers play a role in connecting all those pieces.
What question do you always ask the Bride & Groom?
Why did you chose the Central Coast for your wedding celebration? Asking this one simple question gives me so much insight into the couple and what kind of experience they want to create for their guests.

How would you describe your ideal couple?
My ideal couple is trusting and excited to work with us. They feel that flowers are the tie that binds all the details; the one detail throughout the wedding that has a hand on every other detail. From the stationary, to the dresses, to the linens, to the ceremony setting, to the food styling....flowers should soak it all up. My ideal couple LOVES our work and feels a connection to it like they feel a connection to a piece of art work or a favorite outfit. My ideal couple also drinks coffee (!) and doesn't mind if we become friends after working together.
What is your favorite part of a wedding?
The moment a groom sees his bride for the very first time. I'm a sucker for that moment, time and time again.
How do you normally begin your day?
You know that trendy saying on t-shirts right now..."but first coffee". Yeah, that.
Tell us about your first job.
Honestly, I don't remember what my first job was. I've been working for a really long time. Coffee shops, JC Penny, Vans, the zoo, real estate offices. I'm pretty well rounded. ;)

What do you miss most about being a kid?
Bring carefree. There's a lot of worries and responsibilities to deal with as an adult.

Your wedding is a proclamation of your love and commitment to another person, not a proclamation of how many likes it will get on Instagram or what blog will feature it! Try to keep your expectations in perspective!
