Nick and Anneke had the perfect vision in mind when planning their memorable wedding at the coastal country, Spanish-styled San Luis Obispo wedding venue La Lomita Ranch. Boisterous wildflowers, disco cowboy decor and wondrous details created the vision of "Kacey Musgraves meets Anthropologie, meets Disco, meets Spanish Rustica" while keeping an elegant and timeless feel to their romantic day. I had the pleasure of interviewing the bride, Anneke, about the beautiful day.

Their Love Story

"Remember when Covid hit in spring 2020 and everything went crazy for a few weeks and then everyone settled down and loved quarantine? Well, after my study abroad trip in Argentina was cut short, I returned to the states and we 'officially' met the day Covid closed everything down and the craze hit big time. We had talked, called, and texted before then but when Nick picked me up at the airport we became pretty much inseparable. Now, reflecting on it all with the past few years, we feel incredibly gifted with the beautiful, steadfast rhythm with a year that gave us the space to develop a relationship filled with a certain type of love, closeness, and vulnerability that only the perfect storm of events could have created. We're occasionally defined as "opposites attract" on the surface but our values and passions have combined at a point that reflects a lifetime of love (in the easy and the difficult moments), learning, growing, and endless adventures ahead that we've already begun to tackle as a team in life."

The Inspiration

"Kacey Musgraves meets Anthropologie, meets Disco, meets Spanish Rustica!"

Color Palette

"Apart from vowing to myself that I wouldn't limit the wedding to any specific colors, my biggest inspiration was any color I'd see in a sunset! I want it to feel warm and airy and bright and happy all at the same time."

The Details

"It was all in the details for me! The biggest thing was just the fact that we were married at the venue my family owns. It's played a really special role in the surroundings Nick and I had around us when we started to get to know each other and it's extremely special for my family to finally be able to host such a special and personal event for everyone that knows Nick and I. Also, I was REALLY excited about the florals. Our florist couldn't have read my mind any better with the look I told her I was going for. I think her and I were connected in another life. We went with beautiful woodsy and fairy-like textures all over the place with summery colors that made it feel like we stepped into a color-burst dream, with a side of disco and California ranch style."

Memorable Moments

"We had no idea that confetti would be popped into the air when we walked back down the aisle, and I'll never forget the look of surprise on both our faces when colors flew into the air above us making it feel all the more celebratory! I'm still trying to track down who planted those confetti cannons into the hands of our guests that were all too eager to pop them. It was a beautiful and unique detail that I had originally really wanted, but didn't push because of the clean-up. Well, it was WORTH IT."

Knowing what you know now... what advice would you have for other brides planning their wedding?

"Don't be afraid to be unique and do what feels the most like you! I think the wedding planning industry and process in general can be intimidating, but when it comes to making choices on things that feel too "cookie-cutter" to you, remember that there are always ways to achieve your vision or ideas in SO many different aspects. I think the more unique energy you put into your day, the more special and rewarding it is! Like for our day, my mom and I made our table numbers from scratch to look like vintage, fringe table lamps and it's one of my favorite details with them being so unique and fun!"

What was the most challenging part about planning your wedding?

'I think the toughest part of planning a wedding is managing time that you want to devote to certain aspects and ideas. It was important to me to allocate specific times to different tasks or items that I was excited to put energy towards."
